More DBZ movie news: Chow Yun-Fat cast as Master Roshi!

OMG WTF!!! That’s how I sorta feel about this. No doubt producer Stephen Chow, the star and director of the Hong Kong mega hits “Shaolin Soccer” and “Kung Fu Hustle”, was somehow involved in getting Chow Yun-Fat to join the cast of the live action adaptation of Dragon Ball Z. Considering the amount of C-listers and relative unknowns on the current cast it’s really surprising to see such a high profile actor with considerable talent on what appeared to be a rushed production. But Chow Yun-Fat is no stranger to crap though. Anyone remember “Bulletproof Monk”?
So far this film has about three things that are positive. First, the director James Wong is familiar with special effects laden fight scenes with his experience working with Jet Li on “The One” which was a fun little movie. Secondly, having Stephen Chow as a producer was an unknown quantity because I wasn’t sure what he would bring to the table. But his involvement has apparently paid off. Which leads to the third positive Chow Yun-Fat. His name alone could sell this movie to most Asian regions and lend some much needed credibility on this side of the ocean. While I would have liked to see a more experienced martial arts actor, like Yuen Wah (the land lord in “Kung Fu Hustle”) or even Jackie Chan in this role, Yun-Fat is a very versatile actor and his experience will hopefully benefit the production as a whole.
So what do you all think of this? Good news for DBZ fans or bad news for Chow Yun-Fat fans?
In the meantime here is a clip of a very young Chow Yun-Fat doing some drunken style kung fu!
