Promotional pictures for the upcoming remake/re-imagining of the 80’s classic Karate Kid have recently surfaced on the internet featuring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Jaden is the son of Will Smith who serves as one of the producers for this remake. A lot has already been said about this film, both positive and negative. Well, mostly negative. Have most people actually seen the original film recently? It doesn’t exactly hold up very well. Maybe they just remember how much they liked it back when they saw it in the eighties. Nostalgia always makes things seem better than they actually were.
In any case, the remake is definitely heading our way next year. And based on the pictures available I can honestly say that this film will… well, I can’t really tell how the film will turn out just on the four promo pictures. Jaden certainly can kick pretty darn high. And that pic with Jackie training Jaden on the Great Wall of China is borderline stereotypical. But then again I have no idea what the actual context of that scene is so I can’t judge it too harshly. At least, not yet. Then there is the pic with Jaden and the little Chinese girl playing near a fountain. No context means no judgment on my part. I can only speculate that that particular scene is going to factor in the bullying aspect that Jaden will face in the film.
