supermarioNo, this is not a seedy expose on the secret life of Nintendo’s enduring mascot.  This video, from Yahoo’s weekly online video game news segment PLAYBACK, reveals the origins of Mario.  Starting from what his original name was, how he got his trademark mustache, red hat and blue overalls, to why he randomly appears in a lot of Nintendo first party games.

This isn’t anything new to most hardcore Nintendo fans, but for most of the casual gamers that Nintendo has attracted with it’s current generation Wii console it’s a good introduction to one of the most beloved characters in video game history.
