Nintendo Game Boy enters Toy Hall of Fame
The Nintendo Game Boy, created by the late Gunpei Yokoi and Nintendo’s Research and Development 1, entered the National Toy Hall of Fame earlier this month. The Strong National Toy Museum inducted the Nintendo Game Boy along with the Big Wheel and the ball. The inductees beat out such toy favorites the Cabbage Patch kids and the Rubik’s Cube.
The Nintendo Game Boy was inducted due to it’s role as a “major industry innovator” and how it became “synonymous with hand held gaming fun” according to the Strong National Toy Museum. There is no doubt to the Nintendo Game Boy’s legacy which spawned several upgrades (Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advanced) and has led to Nintendo’s dominant reign in the hand held gaming wars with the Nintendo DS.
The Nintendo Game Boy joins the Atari 2600 as the only two video gaming platforms to be inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame.
Congratulations to the Nintendo Game Boy! Let’s hope your older bigger brother, the Nintendo Entertainment System, joins you in the near future!
