Also playing at the El Rey Theatre are the Yoshida Brothers on Friday, May 8th.

The Yoshida Brothers are Japanese musicians who first debuted in 1999 and played in the traditional style of Tsugaru-jamisen, which originated in northern Japan.  They play the shamisen, a 3 string instrument played with a bachi and their first album sold more than 100,000 copies.  A surprise to them, they continued to play and soon attracted an international audience and later started to include the drums and synthesizers

The music in the video below can be heard in Nintendo Wii’s commerical:
