Rare 1930’s Jiujitsu Footage
You might think women’s self defense classes are a relatively modern thing. Most people will argue that martial arts probably didn’t get mainstream acceptance in the United States until the 1960’s. And they’re probably right. But that doesn’t mean that some martial arts didn’t try to expand in to the West earlier than that. Here are some really rare footage of the Japanese martial art of jiujitsu being demonstrated as a way for women to defend themselves against being mugged or assaulted. If you watch the videos you see that the women aren’t faking the techniques. They have a very good grasp of the martial art. And the male “muggers” also demonstrate proper fall techniques.
