BoA to release “Best & USA”

South Korean Kpop sensation BoA is set to release a ‘best of’ album March 18th. The album will contain a collection of her most popular Japanese language songs along with her full American debut album which releases a day earlier on March 17th. This release doesn’t contain any of her native Korean language songs which is kinda unfortunate. BoA released her first Stateside single October last year titled “Eat You Up”.

While Asian movie stars have had some success in the United States, Asian music stars have struggled to crack the music pop charts. Jpop star Hikaru Utada’s American album fizzled despite her tremendously talented voice (to be honest though, her American album just isn’t as good as her Japanese language stuff but I still bought it anyway) and Kpop mega star Rain is probably gonna make it big in the States as an actor in the upcoming Wachowski brothers produced action film Ninja Assassin, and his really funny “feud” with Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert, and not with his music. I would love to see BoA find some success here, but she’s gonna have to battle against a really crowded market that, unfortunately, isn’t too keen on anything new or Asian.
Her debut single “Eat You Up” is catchy enough to maybe catch on as a club hit. But she’s gonna have to come out with an awesome ballad to have some major cross over appeal.
