Cung Le takes Shamrock’s title

On Saturday night, a rising star in mixed martial arts and a hero in San Jose’s Vietnamese community, Cung Le defeated Frank Shamrock, one of the best mixed martial art fighters in the world, and took the Strikeforce middleweight championship.
Many in the audience waved yellow-and-red Vietnamese flags – a salute to Le, who was born in Saigon and fled for the United States days before the communist takeover. Others solidly backed the charismatic Shamrock, one of the pioneers of mixed martial arts.
After the fight, Le thanked Shamrock, also a San Jose resident, for giving him a championship fight, and told him, “You are a legend. You are the greatest fighter.” (source: Mercury news)
